If you're suffering from frozen shoulder, read this post to find out how meridian massage could help.
Understand Your Shoulder
Your shoulder is made up of three bones: your upper arm bone (humerus), your shoulder blade (scapula), and your collarbone (clavicle). The head of your upper arm bone fits into a socket in your shoulder blade. This socket is called the glenoid.
A ring of tough, rubbery tissue called the shoulder capsule surrounds the glenoid. The shoulder capsule is connected to muscles and ligaments that help hold your shoulder joint together.
What is Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen shoulder happens when this capsule of tissue and surrounding muscles, tendons, and ligaments become so tight and stiff that you can't move your arm. Frozen shoulder is also called adhesive capsulitis.
How Frozen Shoulder occur?
Frozen shoulder usually develops slowly over time. It may happen after you've had an injury or surgery to your shoulder. Or it may be the result of another condition, such as diabetes or a stroke. The condition usually starts gradually, with pain and stiffness in your shoulder that gets worse over time. The pain may be worse at night. You may also have trouble moving your arm, and your range of motion will gradually decrease.
Who are more likely to get Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen shoulder is most common in people ages 40 to 60. Women are more likely than men to get it. People who have diabetes or another condition that damages the nerves and blood vessels are also at higher risk.
The 3 Phases Of Frozen Shoulder
Phase 1: Freezing (painful phase)
This is the phase when you first start to have pain. The pain may come and go at first, but it gradually gets worse and can become constant. You may also have stiffness in your shoulder, and your range of motion will start to decrease. This phase can last anywhere from 2 to 9 months.
Phase 2: Frozen (frozen phase)
The pain may lessen during this phase, but the stiffness gets worse. You won't be able to move your shoulder as much as you could before. This phase can last 4 to 12 months.
Phase 3: Thawing (recovery phase)
The stiffness gradually starts to improve during this phase. You will gradually regain your range of motion. This phase can last 6 to 24 months.
